Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has extended best wishes and congratulations to Dominica’s Alick Athanaze, who was on Tuesday called up to the Senior Men’s West Indies Team.
Cricket West Indies officially unveiled the 15-member squad to play two tests against South Africa from February 28- March 12.
Prime Minister Skerrit said it was a momentous achievement for Athanaze who hails from the community of Grand Bay.
“The Government and People of Dominica are immensely proud and stand in full support of Athanaze as he joins the regional side for the tour of South Africa.
“Just off his first century in regional First Class cricket earlier this month, Athanaze’s selection is yet another gratifying moment for local cricket fans who have tracked his rise over the years. We celebrate with him. Very best wishes for his continued success,” the Prime Minister stated via his official Facebook page.
Athanaze, a Batting All-rounder, is the current Captain of the Windward Islands Volcanoes.
He was part of the West Indies squad for the 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cup. Finishing as the competition’s leading run-scorer with 418 runs, he was named by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as the rising star of the squad.
He scored 141 for the Windward Islands in a first class match against Guyana on February 7.
