PM Skerrit Condemns Violence, Confirms RSS Presence in Dominica
Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit has strongly condemned recent acts of violence in Dominica, urging citizens to reject a culture of crime and maintain peaceful communities.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, September 29, 2025, the Prime Minister said his Government will continue to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to violent crime and take every step necessary to preserve peace and security.
“I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, all acts of violence which bring pain and fear to our communities. Violence has no place in our society, and I call on every citizen to join in building a culture of peace and tolerance,” he said.
The Prime Minister confirmed that members of the Regional Security System (RSS) have been deployed in Dominica to assist the police in ridding the streets of illegal firearms.
“Yes, the RSS is in Dominica, and the RSS is here to support the police in eradicating the presence of illegal firearms. Anyone who has it, we take it from you,” the Prime Minister stated, warning that “every country started with one (murder), and it got to 15, and it got to 25, and it got to 67, and it got to 100, and it got to 600.”
He said the RSS, established to strengthen collective security among Eastern Caribbean states, is fulfilling its mandate by supporting Dominica’s fight against gun crime.
The Prime Minister stressed that the security of citizens and residents remains his Government’s top priority.
“As a Government, we remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of every Dominican. In recent months, we have taken steps to strengthen law enforcement’s ability to curb violent crime, including measures to address the illegal use of firearms and improve the resources available to the Police Force. These are important steps, but we recognize that more must be done.
“We will therefore continue to support the police with the training, tools and technology needed to detect and prevent crime, and to bring offenders to justice,” he stated.
