Over EC$6.5 Million Invested in Community Development Projects under BNTF Cycle 10

A range of projects valued at EC$6,572,233 are underway across Dominica under Cycle 10 of the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), jointly funded by the Caribbean Development Bank and the Government of Dominica.
Hon. Gretta Roberts, Minister for Culture, Youth, Sports, and Community Development, provided details on the ongoing interventions at a Government of Dominica press conference on Monday, April 7, 2025.

“The Paix Bouche Water Enhancement Project is being executed by DOWASCO at a cost of EC$2,167,750. This initiative aims to improve the overall efficiency and reliability of the Paix Bouche Water System, with an increase in both storage capacity and the distribution network in the Moore Park and Lilette areas,” she said.
The project includes the construction of a 60,000-gallon water tank, a new chlorinator building and enhanced access to both the tank and the chlorinator.
Additionally, the Delices Playing Field is being upgraded, with the main works costing EC$703,353.42 and the grassing component valued at EC$259,251.00. Both projects are being executed by Regional Contractors Inc. Meanwhile, the Berean Christian Academy in Bath Estate is undergoing an expansion by Sorell Consulting Ltd. at a cost of EC$439,314.38. This extension will enhance the school’s capacity by adding new classrooms to support the Early Childhood Programme.

Grand Bay/ Dubique Multipurpose Facility
The fourth project involves the full rehabilitation of the Grand Bay/Dubique Multipurpose Facility, also managed by Sorell Consulting Ltd.at a total cost of EC$776,449.90.
The Trafalgar Basketball Court Facility is undergoing an upgrade by Regional Contractors Inc., costing EC$314,477.76.
“The upgrade includes covering and enhancing the indoor basketball facility, as well as the installation of fencing around the court, the erection of a main gate, the construction of a retaining wall, the repair of basketball rims, and the addition of pavilion stands. Furthermore, the hard court will also receive upgraded lighting,” Hon. Roberts revealed.

Clifton Back Road
Another project is the refurbishment of the Clifton Back Road, being executed by Regional Contractors Inc. at a cost of EC$1,070,534.05.
“The Warner Water Tank and Drip Irrigation System has also been added to the BNTF Cycle 10 portfolio. This new project is expected to commence soon, with an approved cost of EC$223,806.01,” the Minister added.
In addition to these seven projects, the Soufriere/Scotts Head Village Fish Processing Facility has also been approved.
“This project will involve the construction of a fish processing plant and the purchase of necessary equipment. Upon completion, the facility will offer opportunities for the production of clean-cut, smoked, and vacuum-packed fish, catering to both local and international markets,” Hon. Roberts concluded.
