Government to Transition Long-Serving NEP Interns into the Public Service
The Government of Dominica has announced a policy decision to transition eligible interns under the National Employment Programme (NEP) into established positions within the Public Service.
“The Government of Dominica is pleased to announce a significant milestone in its commitment to empowering citizens through sustainable employment opportunities.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to support the workforce and foster economic stability, individuals who have been actively engaged with the National Employment Program (NEP) for five years or more in the public service will be transitioned into full-time public service positions,” Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said on Wednesday.
The move builds on the success of the programme, which over the past twelve years has provided on-the-job training and skills development opportunities for young people, supporting their entry into the workforce.
More than 300 individuals have already transitioned from the NEP into permanent or acting roles within the Public Service.
“This initiative to bring long-serving NEP workers into the public service establishment, recognizes the dedication, skills, and contributions of these citizens to our national development. By offering permanent positions, we aim to provide security, benefits, and growth opportunities, enabling them to better serve our communities and contribute to Dominica’s progress,” the Prime Minister said.
Under the new policy, priority will be given to interns who have served for more than five years, possess an associate degree or higher qualification and have demonstrated consistent and satisfactory performance in their roles.
The announcement follows the recent regularization of more than 110 non-established officers and forms part of broader efforts to improve job security, working conditions and stability within the public sector.
