Government of Dominica Launches TradeStream

The Government of Dominica has launched TradeStream, an online platform to increase the efficiency of the application process for import and export of goods and leverage technology to bolster sustainable growth.
TradeStream is a cutting-edge digital platform designed to simplify and expedite the process of obtaining licenses, permits, certificates, and other pertinent documents related to imports, exports, and transit operations.
Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security, Hon. Dr. Irving McIntyre, described the launch of TradeStream as another important step to ensure efficient service delivery within the public sector.
“The TradeStream application is part of a wider system that we are building to create a truly modern e-government. That is a government that embraces the digitization of services and information to streamline administrative processes, reduce paperwork, and save time and money,” he said.
Dr. McIntyre emphasized the government’s dedication to fostering a more business-friendly environment in Dominica and said the launch of TradeStream was consistent with the Government’s Reset policy to get things done with “greater speed and with greater accountability.”
“TradeStream is all about efficiency and accountability. Now, instead of walking from building to building, moving from one part of the city to the next to obtain a license to import white potatoes, for example, a farmer can sit at his home computer, order and pay for his license online.
“This is what we mean when we speak of a reset of our work technology, our approach to work, and our attitudes to socio-economic development,” he noted.

Acting Comptroller of Customs, Vincent Christmas
Acting Comptroller of Customs, Vincent Christmas, said the TradeStream platform will facilitate transactions for the business community, reduce the time of doing business, and ensure the liberalization of global trade and investment.
“We are stepping in into an era of smarter, faster, and greener trade, and the significance of this cannot be understated,” he said.
“Let our steps today inspire you to also embark on this transformative journey. Together we can make the Eastern Caribbean a powerhouse of efficient, sustainable, and technology advanced trade,” he said as he encouraged the wider region to get on board with the new system.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy, Dr. Vince Henderson said TradeStream presented an opportunity to reduce transaction costs and could lead to a reduction in the cost of goods imported into Dominica.
“Accessing government’s services is now online more than ever before. Today, we are celebrating another great milestone, another great achievement to continue to facilitate the transactions between the people and the services that the government provides, ” he stated.
