Government Hands Over New Homes in Eggleston and Scotts Head; Ownership Titles on the Way
The Government of Dominica has handed over modern, climate resilient homes to families in Eggleston and Scotts Head, as part of its ongoing Housing Revolution. Sixteen apartment units were presented to families in Eggleston last week, followed by the delivery of 21 homes in Scotts Head on Monday.
The homes were financed through the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme.
Minister for Housing, Hon. Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, noted that more than 240 homes are currently under construction, describing the Government’s housing programme as “life-changing,” uplifting families and transforming communities.
“Our vision of being a climate resilient nation remains the focus of our efforts. Each passing day we embrace opportunities such as this, to look back, look within and to look forward to the best possible quality of life for our people.
“Yes, big things are happening at the Ministry of Housing. We’re not just building homes, we are changing lives and lifting people out of poverty, one key at a time,” Hon. Poponne- Skerrit declared.
According to the Housing Minister, under the Housing Recovery Project (HRP), 91 additional homes are ready to be distributed with developments near completion in Woodford Hill, Canefield, Penville, Paix Bouche, Vieille Case, Trafalgar, Pointe Michel and Grand Bay.
In addition to new homes, the Government is preparing to hand over 26 titles to residents of Petite Savanne who now reside at Bellevue Chopin.
The Housing Minister encouraged the new homeowners to value their properties and take pride in their upkeep.
“Honour this gift. Protect it. Take care of your homes. Maintain your surroundings. Build a culture of cleanliness, of class, of care. Pay attention to the small details-they make the biggest difference,” she urged.
