The Government of Dominica on Monday handed over twenty-two (22) newly constructed resilient homes to beneficiaries under the Housing Recovery Project (HRP), another milestone in its ongoing housing revolution.
The Housing Recovery Programme, implemented from 2019 to 2025 through a loan agreement with the World Bank, adopted a homeowner-driven model, the first of its kind in the Caribbean. 382 resilient homes have been completed across the country at a cost of $69 million, with 313 handed over to beneficiaries.
Speaking on behalf of Housing Minister, Hon. Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, Hon. Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite said Government’s housing programme has had a positive impact on thousands of families nationwide.
“These homes are changing lives. Families are safer from storms, more comfortable and more secure, and most importantly, they now own a piece of Dominica that can be passed on to their children. This is real generational wealth,” she declared.

Monday’s ceremony also recognized the Dominican contractors who delivered the homes with three of the top-performing contractors, Ronan David, Sherman Boston and Yankey Oliver honoured.
The Ministry also announced several upcoming developments, including the preparation of certificates of title for residents of the Petite Savanne Resettlement in Bellevue Chopin, the completion of the Bagatelle Housing Project by the end of 2026, the completion of 58 new homes at the Dubique Resettlement in Centre, Grand Bay, and the opening of 26 commercial units to support agro-processors and small entrepreneurs.
Minister for Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security, representing Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, said Government’s housing programme will continue, ensuring the safety and security of vulnerable citizens.
“More housing solutions are currently under construction. More sites have been approved for development. More families will see improved living conditions. Our aim, as stated repeatedly by Prime Minister Skerrit, is to ensure that every Dominican has the opportunity to live in a decent, safe and climate-resilient home.
“This work is not about politics; it is about people. It is about ensuring that the next time a major storm threatens us, our families will be more secure. It is about building a Dominica in which future generations can grow with confidence,” he stated.
