Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Awareness Campaign Launched in Dominica
The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, in collaboration with key partners, the OECS Commission, CARICOM IMPACS and the World Bank Group officially launched the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Awareness Campaign on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The initiative forms part of Dominica’s continued efforts under the Caribbean Digital Transformation Project to strengthen resilience, promote safe online practices, and protect citizens, businesses, and institutions from cyber threats.
The launch event, held at the St. Alphonsus Parish Hall brought together government officials, law enforcement agencies, educators, private sector representatives, and civil society stakeholders. The campaign emphasizes the importance of digital safety, cybercrime prevention and responsible use of technology, with a special focus on raising awareness among youth, businesses, and vulnerable groups.
In his remarks, Honourable Fidel Grant, Minister for Public Works, Public Utilities and the Digital Economy highlighted the growing risks posed by cybercrime and the need for a united national response. He emphasized that cybersecurity is not only a matter of technology but also of awareness, education, and personal responsibility.
The campaign will feature a series of workshops, school outreach activities, public service announcements, social media engagement, and community forums, all aimed at empowering Dominicans with the knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world securely.
It is designed to:
- Enhance public awareness on the importance of cybersecurity in everyday life.
- Educate citizens, businesses, and government institutions on how to safeguard personal and organizational data from cyber threats.
- Strengthen national resilience against the growing risks of online fraud, identity theft, ransomware, and other forms of cybercrime.
- Promote digital literacy and responsible online behavior, particularly among young people, entrepreneurs, and vulnerable groups.
As Dominica continues to advance its digital economy and expand online services, the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Awareness Campaign seeks to ensure that citizens are better equipped to safeguard their personal data, protect their online identities, and contribute to a safer digital environment for all.
The Ministry of Public Works, Public Utilities and Digital Economy reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that Dominica’s digital future is inclusive, secure, and sustainable. The Government encourages the public to actively engage with the campaign’s activities, which will include community outreach, media programs, school initiatives, and the distribution of educational materials nationwide.
