Contract Signed for Restoration of Lighting at Windsor Park Sports Stadium
A contract has been signed for the restoration of the lighting at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium (WPSS).
The Government of Dominica signed the $2.4 million contract with Watson Canoville of C&J Electrical Services for the installation of six new light towers to meet the requirements for nighttime local, regional and international sporting events. In particular, the enhanced lighting will qualify the venue for the hosting of after dark international cricket matches.
Completion of the project is expected within three months.

Sen. Hon. Oscar George, the Minister with special responsibility for Youth and Sports, says the investment will advance efforts to create a vibrant sports tourism sector in Dominica.
“We are exploring the possibility of hosting the 6ixty tournament. We are in discussions with the organizers and I must say that things are looking good. We need to appreciate the numerous opportunities that the tournament can bring to Dominica not just from a sports tourism standpoint but also from the economic benefits that can be derived. I can assure you that we will do everything in our power to ensure that we get these games.
“And of course, we are looking to attract some CPL games, expand our Dream 11 tournament, as well as our local tournaments, with night games at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium,” George said.
The 6ixty is a T10 cricket tournament organized by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Since the passage of Hurricane Maria, which caused significant damage to the WPSS, the Government of Dominica has invested over $8 million in upgrades to include repairs to the stadium roof, purchase and installation of a new electronic scoreboard and facility improvements to prepare for 2022’s T20 International games between West Indies and Bangladesh.
